The electron gun has cathodes (21) located in front of a control electrode (22), screening electrode (23) and a focussing electrode assembly (24). The focussing electrodes have apertures (24H) allowing the electrons to pass into the final accelerator stage (25). The focussing assembly is formed from a first stage (24a) fixed to the outlet stage (24f). A second assembly has a pair of coupled elements (24d,24b). The two units are separated by a space. ADVANTAGE - Improved convergence. Minimised interference between 3 electron beams.
