The tool (1) has a flat section (2) of reduced thickness. The markings (4) to be applied are in negative script, of a lower depth c.f. the thickness of the section (2). The tool matches the curvature of one of the press dies, to compress the clamp of ductile material at the cable joint, to emboss the markings in the material by one and the same press. The embossing tool is of a high tensile steel. The tool pref. has a grip (3) of the same length as that of the pressed clamp so that, after the clamp is compressed, it may be inserted into the same press for further compression, where the ductile material is forced into the negative script and takes up the embossed shape of the identification marking. USE/ADVANTAGE - The press clamp is used to join cables together, e.g. for crane slings etc., with markings at the clamp to show the load-bearing strength. The markings are applied while the clamp is compressed, in a durable form, where the press may be used for various identifications.
