The sections of insulation (40,20) are laid over, or between the roof rafters of a building. The abutting edges of the insulation are stepped, and a series of recesses (46,47) and projections (48,50) formed, such that the projections and recesses of abutting sections intermesh to form a joint. The joint is nearly airtight and allows no more heat leakage than the solid insulation. If movement occurs, causing a partial withdrawal of the two joint members, voids appear in the joint region but longitudinal mating surfaces remain in contact. USE/ADVANTAGE - Insulation joint in building roof which even when slightly displaced prevents a cold bridge from being formed.
