Filter for engine fuel or lubricating oil

Filter has housing consisting of base section (10) and cover (13) inside which is filter insert (18). The cover is removably attached to the base section, and the insert is replaceable and is held between the base section and cover. The base section is attached to a connecting element (11). Support tube (19) is attached to the base or cover, and carries the cylindrical filter insert. The insert has non-metallic end sections and is sealed to the base by sealing element (33) while second sealing element (36) is provided at its opposite end. Pref. the base section is screwed into the connecting element (11), and the cover is attached to the base by screwed or bayonet-type connection. Washable filter insert may be used. The support tube (19) may be provided with collar which acts as seal. The cover is in the form of plastic injection moulding with internal screw threads, and the end of the insert which faces the base section is provided with an oil outlet hole. Bypass regulating valve (41) inside the support tube (19) and filter (38,39) are provided, and the cover has an oil drain screw.
