The variable flow volume is set by an adjusting unit (6), adjusted by a device (8), which becomes active, when the pressure in the low pressure conduit (5a,b) or a feed tube (10) leading to it, drops to below a set level. The device uses an adjusting force, to reduce the flow volume of the pump, or to increase the flow volume of the motor. The hydraulic adjusting device (8) has a piston/cylinder unit. This has a working chamber (15,16) on either side of the piston (14). One is charged with a control pressure via a primary control conduit (19,21), the other is connected to the low pressure working conduit (5a,b). ADVANTAGE - Prevents or at least reduces cavitation.
