The input and display device has a matrix of dot elements to detect the movement of a stylus over its surface. A grid (6) with light-transmitting areas (10) is placed over the working side of the device to form a writing surface for the stylus. Pref. the grid is in the form of a honeycomb made of plastics with the light-transmitting areas formed by rectangular apertures contg. a gas or air. The apertures pref. have sidewalls coated with light-reflecting material. Pref. the front and rear sides of the honeycomb are sealed by plates of light-transmitting plastics or glass. USE/ADVANTAGE - For data input into processor. Cost effective, light weight and has reduced parallax error.
