Moulding e.g. chip cards with thinner area

Chip cards or their blanks are produced by injecting a plastic melt into a cavity and allowing it to cool. The melt is first injected into a mould whose shape is generally that required of the final article but without any reduced wall thicknesses. The distance between particular parts of the mould wall is then altered or at least partially reduced once the melt has flowed at least into those particular parts. The shot of melt is then compressed and/or displaced from those parts whose distance apart has been reduced.
