Absorber element has a base made of an electrically insulating material contg. a finely divided material having dielectric and/or magnetic properties. The average density of the conducting substance increases from the side of the element bombarded with electromagnetic waves to the opposite side. The base (11) made of a porous or ceramic material is of a plate-like shape and its surface has a conductive deposit (13) included in the wall surfaces of the pores (12), whose thickness of low dielectric behaviour, lowest on the side of the base bombarded with electromagnetic waves and increases to the opposite side. Prodn. of the absorber element is also claimed. The element is pref. produced by dipping the base into a chemical bath to deposit a metal onto the surface of the base. A metal layer is formed which increases from the bombarded surface to the opposite surface. USE/ADVANTAGE - The absorber element is used to absorb electromagnetic waves in a wide band width.
