The lamp has a tubular discharge envelope (8) supported within an outer glass cylinder (2) by a frame (5) provided by the 2 lead wires (6a, 6b). One level wire (6a) is coupled to the bottom lamp electrode (Wa) via a U shaped wire loop (9), the other attached to a support rod (12) extending parallel to the envelope (8) with a stamped spring (15) at its opposite end for contacting the second lamp electrode (10b). The spring (15) has an outer frame section (17) and a relatively sprung inner section 818) defined by a meander element between 2 parallel side arms (20) allowing thermal expansion.
