The mortice lock incorporates a cylinder lock (26). When the key is inserted in the cylinder lock and rotated the arm (25) is rotated and engages a recess in a slider (29). The slider is connected by a pin (K1) to a lever which can swing about a pivot (31). The upper end of the lever (30) is connected by a second pin (K2) to a rearward extension (11") of the lock bolt (11). The lever magnifies the movement of the slider so that the lock bolt moves through a distance which is much greater than that through which the tip of the arm is moved. ADVANTAGE - The movement magnifying mechanism is very compact.
