The data sub-quantity definition and display method uses generation of a data sub-quantity object containing a list of data set ID's, identifying the data sets which belong to the defined data sub-quantity, the data sub-quantity object belonging to a group ID class with a data set ID sub-class and a sub-quantity sub-class. The data sets corresponding to the listed data set ID's are extracted in succession when the group ID class is quantified as the sub-quantity sub-class. Also included are Independent claims for the following; (a) a device for defining and displaying a data sub-quantity; (b) a program memory device for a data sub-quantity defining and displaying program; (c) a memory structure containing a data sub-quantity object
