The engine has a fuel injection valve (4) with valve seal (5) near the base of a cylinder head (2), which has a flat section near the seal. A water outlet is formed in the cylinder seal (3) near the injection valve seal. The injection valve is cooled by coolant water via a section of the valve seal, and the water comes from the outlet along the cylinder head base. The length of the water outlet in a direction at right angles to the crankshaft direction corresponds mainly to a gap between an inner wall (11) of an upper cylinder block (1) section and an outer wall (12).
