SPECIFIC DNA SEQUENCES RELATED TO AN IBDV PROTEIN INCLUDING VECTORS, HOSTS AND VACCINES

A biologically pure polypeptide comprises an amino acid sequence of 30 to 1012 amino acids and has the antibody binding characteristics of at least one U.S. variant IBDV VP2 protein. Biologically pure RNA and DNA segments comprise sequences encoding at least one copy of the biologically pure polypeptide. A recombinant vector comprises at least one copy of a DNA segment encoding 1-20 polypeptides having the antibody binding characteristics of at least one U.S. variant of the IBDV VP2 protein, and optionally, the VP3 and VP4 proteins, as well. A host is transformed with the recombinant vector. A method of protecting poultry from IBD comprises administering to the poultry an amount of the DNA or the recombinant vector effective to mount an immunological response against IBDV.
