PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a socket for electric parts, for preventing external fore from acting on a contact pin from outside. SOLUTION: An IC socket 11 is provided with a socket main body 3 on which an IC package 12 as an electric part is to be placed, a plurality of contact pins 14 attached to the socket main body 13 and capable of being brought into contact with and separated from an IC leads 12b of the IC package 12, and an upper operating member 15 arranged movably in the contact and separate direction to the socket main body 13 and for bringing the contact pins 14 into contact with the IC leads 12b. In this case, an upper operating member side external force protecting rib 15d positioned between the contact pins 4 and extending toward a counterpart side is formed on the upper operating member 15, and the outer edge 15e in the external force preventing rib 15d is positioned outside the contact pins 14 so as to prevent external force from acting on the contact pins 14.
