A shear mechanism has a shear assembly with shear assembly that can be quickly changed. The shear assembly supports a vertically displaceable shear which is operated via a drive system which is connected to the shear mechanism frame. With the release of top fasteners which secure the shear assembly to the guide rail support and the release of a top accessible support bearing the shear assembly can be lifted out of the frame since the shear drive system and shear assembly are vertically separable.
