A colloidal sulfur particle opacifying extender scatters light across the visible spectrum to result in an overall colorless appearance. A process for opacifying and extending matrix, which can be a water-borne emulsion or a coating, using the colloidal sulfur particles, and opacified and extended water-borne emulsions and coatings including the colloidal sulfur particles are also provided.
