This acetabular cup (1), intended to receive the head of a hip prosthesis, in the general shape of a dome, and having an equatorial annular groove (3) near its base (2), also comprises a meridian groove (6, 7), extending along a meridian and adjoining the said equatorial groove (3) at two diametrically opposite places, intended to receive an annular element (16) comprising two mutually perpendicular loops, a first annular loop (17) intended to be received in the equatorial groove (3), and a second partial loop (18, 19) intended to be received in the meridian groove (6, 7), the two loops being attached (20) to each other and being fitted and held therein by the effect of elasticity. <IMAGE>
