摘要 Linear olefins having 10 to 24 carbon atoms can be converted into oligomers suitable for use as synthetic lubricant base stocks by contacting them at elevated temperature with a catalyst comprising titanium or zirconium oxide on a silica substrate, obtained by depositing a titanium or zirconium salt on the substrate, and then calcining at a temperature of at least 600 DEG C. In one embodiment the silica-supported titanium or zirconium oxide is sulphate-activated, and used as a blend with an acidic montmorillonite clay.
