This invention relates to a process for the recovery of noble metals and tertiary phosphines from other liquors after catalytic hydrogenation using catalysts comprising a noble metal and a tertiary phosphine in the form of a telluric amalgam and tertiary phosphine oxide, characterized in that: a) a suitable solvent having a boiling point above 120 degree C is added to the concentrated mother liquor residues after hydrogenation, water and other residual solvents are removed by distillation, tellurium or one of its reducible compounds is added, then refluxed at atmospheric pressure, and finally the noble metal amalgam formed is separated out, b) the residual mother liquors obtained in a) are concentrated, recovering the high boiling point solvent, and tertiary phosphine is isolated in the form of its oxide by the addition of hot water and by slow cooling.
