In a continuous method for removal of dirt residues from metallic waste, particularly metallic waste occurring in household waste, the waste is rinsed with water, preferably in a two-stage rinsing drum (9). To avoid or reduce unwanted water outflows, and to make use of the removed dirt, the washing water carrying the removed dirt is subjected to an exothermal wet oxidation process at elevated temperature and pressure in a reactor (50) and then at least partly returned to the rinsing drum (9), via a sludge settling vessel (42). The heat produced in the wet oxidation can be used for example for heat exchange and for power generation.

|
