PURPOSE:To lighten the breakage state of a vehicle and an obstacle when both collide with each other. CONSTITUTION:An air bumper device is equipped with an air bumper 2 installed on the periphery of a vehicle, an inflator 3 for expanding the air bumper 2 according to necessity, a distance sensor 4 which is installed on the vehicle and detects the approach situation of an obstacle, and an inflator control circuit 5 which controls the inflator 3 according to the signal input supplied from the distance sensor 4. The inflator control circuit 5 operates interlocked with a foot brake 7 or side brake 6, and is equipped with the distance calculation function for calculating the relative speed and distance between the vehicle and an obstacle on the basis of the previously determined standard, collision allowableness judging function for judging the allowableness of the collision between the vehicle and the obstacle, according to the result of the distance calculation, and the function for outputting the drive signal into the inflator 3 when the allowableness of collision is judged. |
