PURPOSE:To provide a back projection type display device of super-thin structure at a low cost, which is free from deterioration in a projected image, presents stable temp. characteristics of the device, and is equipped with high reliability. CONSTITUTION:In a cabinet 1, a projection lens 2 is installed while the projection distance is secured, and an illumination device 8 is installed a certain angle inclined to the axis tying the top center of a screen 3 to its bottom center in the region outside of the outermost side face of an image light flux 12 directed from a fourth reflex mirror 7 to a screen 3 and surrounded by the front face, rear face, side face, over-surface, and under-surface of the cabinet 1. A light bulb 9 is installed in such an arrangement that the shorter edge of its image display part is directed approx. the same as the depth of the cabinet 1.
