PURPOSE: To provide a casting apparatus having a casting mold/vacuum box pickup mechanism capable of decreasing the required amount of molding material and reducing the amount of the generation of the slug and reducing the transverse direction size of a casting mold. CONSTITUTION: This casting apparatus consists of the casting mold 10, a vacuum box 60 enclosing the casting mold and the casting mold/vacuum box pickup mechanism 12 for supporting and clamping up the casting mold and a vacuum box. The side walls 6 of the vacuum box are sealingly engaged with upwardly facing sealing surfaces 55 and 57 of pick-up members 50 and 51 via sealing gaskets 68 and are not engaged with the sealing surface of a drag 22 and, therefore, the need for extending the size in the transverse direction of the casting mold to the side walls of the vacuum box is eliminated and the selection of the transverse direction size of the casting mold to the least possible size necessary for housing a casting mold cavity 24 is made possible. |
