The method is used for controlling passenger safety arrangements according to requirements, taking into account the anticipated movement of the passenger relative to the vehicle. The expected movement of the passenger is determined on the basis of the anticipated acceleration behaviour of the vehicle during an accident and on the basis of the current passenger individual parameters. The anticipated acceleration behaviour of the vehicle is extrapolated on the basis of the acceleration behaviour up to that time. The anticipated acceleration behaviour may be selected from stored acceleration runs. The selection may be carried out using a pre-crash sensor arrangement.
