PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound in reduced processes more safely than by conventional methods by subjecting a hydroxycyclohexane compound to a condensation reaction in the presence of a specific titanium compound. CONSTITUTION:A 4-hydroxycylohexane compound of formula I (R is H or an inactive group such as alkyl or aryl) is subjected to a condensation reaction in the presence of a trivalent titanium compound (e.g. titanium trioxide or titanium triacetate) or titanium metal to obtain the objective compound of formula II. The reaction is preferably in an inactive solvent such as THF at the refluxing temperature. The raw material compound of formula I and the solvent are preferably perfectly dehydrated by a vacuum-drying method, etc. The separation of the objective compound from the condensation reaction solution is performed e.g. by mixing the condensation reaction solution with an alcohol, adsorbing the objective compound and by-products in the mixture with an adsorbent, separating the solid phase and subsequently eluting the objective compound from the solid phase with ethyl acetate, etc. |
