The fuel injection valve has at least one injection opening that can be connected to a pressure chamber by movement of a valve element to pass fuel into the engine's combustion chamber. The valve element in the guide section of a bore is hydraulically connected to the pressure chamber over part of its circumference so that a radial resultant force is applied to the valve element by the fuel. The device has a valve body (5) with a bore in (7) which a piston-shaped valve element (10) moves longitudinally with sealing in a bore guide section (107) remote from the combustion chamber and enclosed by a pressure chamber (15) joined to the bore guide section at the combustion chamber end and fillable with fuel under pressure. At least one injection opening (28) can be connected to the pressure chamber by movement of the valve element to pass fuel into the engine's combustion chamber. The valve element in the guide section of the bore is hydraulically connected to the pressure chamber over part of its circumference so that a radial resultant force is applied to the valve element by the fuel.
