The plate cylinder (10) comprises a cylindrical base mandrel (12) and a changeable cylindrical printing sleeve made either of a nonmetal or metal material. In cases of nonmetal printing sleeves (14), the diameter of the latter can be expanded by means of compressed air introduced between the outer surface of the mandrel and the inner surface of the sleeve. Metal printing sleeves (16) can be hydraulically clamped onto the base mandrel by means of expansion clamping sleeves (66, 68).
