TREATMENT OF WASTE ALCOHOL SOLUTION WITH HIGH SALT CONCENTRATION

PURPOSE:To form harmless gas and a stable glass solid with high treatment efficiency by a simple process and to constitute the process up to final treatment as a total system. CONSTITUTION:A waste alcohol solution with high salt concn. containing a radioactive substance is oxidized by nitric acid to be sent to the drying tray 16 of an evaporative drying apparatus 14. When the waste alcohol solution is heated by an evaporation heater 18, alcohol gas is generated and the residue consisting of a radioactive substance and sodium nitrate remains on the drying tray. When the alcohol gas is heated by a heater 20 to be passed through a platinum catalyst tower 22, said gas is converted to carbon dioxide and steam. The off gas is diluted and cooled to be filtered by a HEPA filter 24 to be discharged. The evaporation residue is sent to a solidifying device 28 to be heated and melted along with the glass additive added to the device 28 by microwaves to obtain a stable glass solid 34 based on sodium.
