PURPOSE:To improve the adherability of aramid fibers to esp. acrylic rubbers by treating aramid fiber with a treating liquid containing an acrylic rubber latex and a condensate from chlorophenol compounds having specific structure and molecular weight distribution followed by treatment with the second treating liquid containing RFL. CONSTITUTION:Aramid fiber is first treated with the first treating liquid containing (A) chlorophenol compounds having a molecular weight distribution, consisting mainly of 3-nucleus compound, 5-nucleus compound and 7-nucleus compound of respective formulas I to III produced by copolymerization of p- chlorophenol and resorcin with formaldehyde and (B) as rubber latex, an acrylic rubber latex crosslinked with an epoxy compound with an acrylic alkyl ester as the main skeleton. Thence, the resulting aramid fiber is further treated with the second treating liquid containing RFL (the latex being of an acrylic rubber similar to that mentioned above), thus affording the objective aramid fiber for reinforcement improved in the adherability to acrylic rubber matrix good in resistance to cold, oil and heat. |
