The present invention relates to a method and to a device for reprocessing spent batteries of appliances. This method is characterised in that the batteries are heated, in a closed container (1), and are brought to a temperature at which the metal/plastic bonds and the metal/metal bonds are broken, optionally under the action of a mechanical pressure and/or an impact, and the metal parts are then separated from the plastic parts by conventional physical separation methods. <IMAGE>
