The invention relates to a device for handling bottles, of the type comprising a jib structure, at the free end of which is suspended a tool for gripping the bottles, by means of a flexible link, one end of which is connected to the tool and the other end of which is coupled to automatic balancing means with a counterweight. According to the invention, the jib structure (101) consists of a vertical upright (104, 105) and an articulated horizontal arm (106, 107) mounted pivotably on the said upright; the horizontal arm is formed from an upstream arm (106) and from a downstream arm (107) connected together at the level of an articulation (150) having a vertical axis (202), and the flexible link (108) crosses over this articulation by passing over two offset pulleys (116, 117) which are arranged in such a manner that the portion of the flexible link thus offset remains positioned along the vertical axis (202) of the articulation regardless of the relative position of the upstream (106) and downstream (107) arms. <IMAGE>
