摘要 PURPOSE:To simply find the noise index of an optical amplifier with high precision. CONSTITUTION:Signal light in one polarization mode is inputted to the optical amplifier 3 to be measured, the intensity of signal light outputted by the optical amplifier 3 to be measured and the intensity of natural emitted light are individually measured, and the noise index of the optical amplifier 3 to be measured is calculated from the measured output signal light intensity of the optical amplifier to be measured, the output natural emitted light intensity of the optical amplifier to be measured, and the input signal light intensity of the optical amplifier to be measured. By this noise index measuring method, only the natural emitted light in polarization mode crossing the signal light at right angles is extracted from the light outputted by the optical amplifier 3 to be measured and the intensity of the natural emitted light in polarization mode crossing the extracted signal light at right angles is measured to calculate the noise index of the object optical amplifier 3.
