The sealing-off member is a roll-up strip (3), the ends (20, 22) of which are respectively fixed to the wall (21) on which the passage opening (2) is formed, and to a drum (5), the axis (23) of which points parallel to the direction of the width of the strip. By virtue of guide slits (9) and pinions (8) interacting with racks (11), the drum, under the action of a sliding cable (13), performs a translational movement and a rotational movement which are synchronised and during which the strip rolls up and unrolls progressively, thus closing off a variable fraction of the surface of the opening. This device occupies a small volume. Application to heating and/or ventilation appliances for the passenger compartment (cockpit) of motor vehicles. <IMAGE>
