PURPOSE:To resist impulsive noise, be capable of practical use even under reflecting illumination and to highly precisely detect the real edge line of an object at high speed. CONSTITUTION:A video signal obtained by image-picking up the object by a camera 20 is set to be picture data in an A/D converter 21. Picture data in a local area near a notice picture element is divided into ranks by density. A difference between a center value and a low rank value or a high rank value in density data is taken, and picture data taking the difference is binarized so as to extract the area of a band where edge strength is high. The area is outline-traced so as to divide it into an external outline and an internal outline. The outline whose original picture density is lower or the outline with higher density is set to be the real edge line of the object. |
