PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in picture quality and resolution and an alteration of the shape of an original image when a binary image is varied in magnification. CONSTITUTION:A binary-coded original image is converted into a many-valued image. For example, when a picture element A of the original image is converted into a many-valued picture element, the number of gradations of the picture element A is determined by referring to the picture element A and its peripheral picture elements B-I of the original image. For example, picture elements A, C, G, H, and I are black and the number of the black picture elements, i.e. '5' is decided as the number of gradations. Thus, the respective picture elements of the original image are converted into many-valued picture elements individually. This many-valued image is varied in magnification as usual and then converted into a binary image and thus the image process ends. The respective picture elements of the original image are converted into the many-valued picture elements individually, so neither the picture element nor the resolution deteriorates and the shape of the original image is faithfully reproduced. |
