A circuit for generating output pulses, of which at least a part have a variable frequency, from periodic input pulses. The circuit comprises a frequency divider (CP) having a content (J) and an input (HP) for receiving input pulses which incrementally increase said content. The divider delivers an output pulse when its content reaches a maximum content (Jmax) and has a division ratio which is equal to the number of input pulses received between two output pulses. A unit (CUD) is provided for changing the division ratio so that the output pulses may be generated at a variable frequency. The circuit may be used to control the acceleration and deceleration of step motors.
