MOVING PICTURE CONVERSION CODING ERROR CORRECTION DEVICE

PURPOSE:To attain optimum error correction by replacing data with specific data by a prescribed method based on the result of analysis of the data whose error is detected but whose error cannot be corrected as a result of error correction decoding. CONSTITUTION:A block processing circuit 13 applies block processing to data of one pattern of digital moving picture data, a discrete cosine transformation(DCT) circuit 14 obtains a transformation coefficient, the data are quantized, error correction coding is applied to an error correction coder 16 and the result is recorded on a recording medium. An error correction decoder 17 decodes data read from a medium 11 and outputs the transformation coefficient from an inverse quantizer 18. A 1st correction circuit 19 analyzes data whose error can be detected but cannot be corrected and replaces the data with prescribed data based on the result of analysis. A 2nd correction circuit 22 replaces a reproduced picture element of a block having an error with a reproduced picture element of a preceding pattern when the data whose error cannot be corrected are data with a prescribed frequency component or additional information based on an output signal of the circuit 19.
