PURPOSE:To provide a portable telephone system in which a power amplifier of a power amplification booster is operated in a suitable state when the por table telephone set is connected to the power amplification booster so as to implement the transmission of multistage changeover with the same standard as that of an automobile telephone set. CONSTITUTION:Reference voltage generators 10, 25 of a portable telephone set A and a power amplifier booster B generate respectively a reference voltage corresponding to a command level of a transmission output. Voltage comparators 12, 27 compare the reference voltage with a detection output of power amplifiers 3, 18 and power controllers 6, 21 control the power amplifiers 3, 18. When the portable telephone set A is connected to the power amplifier booster B, a reference voltage from the reference voltage generator 10 switched to be in the connection operation is selected by a changeover device as a control output with respect to the power controller 6 and the power amplifier 3 is controlled so as to be suitable for the transmission output of the power amplifier booster B thereby optimizing the operation of the power amplifier 18.
