The invention relates to a device for rescue at sea of a man overboard who has fallen from his boat, of the type comprising a transmitter worn by the sailor and a receiver, located on board the boat, which determines the bearing angle of the transmitter. It is characterised in that it furthermore comprises, on the boat, means for determining the wind direction, means (34, 35) for operating the rudder (36) of the boat as well as a programmed central processing unit (20) automatically controlling the means (34) on the basis of the bearing angle values and of the wind direction.
