The invention relates to a drive device (220) for a civil engineering works vehicle, including a motor (50), first and second pumps (230a, 230b), first and second motors driven by fluids; first and second hydraulic circuits (270a, 272a; 270b, 272b) connecting the pumps to the motors; first and second drive means in contact with the ground; a detector which detects the position of a control member which can move between first and second limits in order to indicate a desired speed of the motor; a memory device which stores data and establishes a relationship between the desired motor speed signal and first and second control signals, processing means which produce the first and second signals, matching means for producing a matched control signal, and compression means for compressing some of the stored data. The invention also relates to apparatus and to a method for matching the speeds of separate motors for driving this device. <IMAGE>
