In the prodn. of organic protective coatings and decorations with integrated flame retardants based on halogens, microencapsulated aliphatic Br cpds. (I) are added to these systems. The microcapsules pref. have shells of thermosetting and/or thermoplastic polymers and/or elastomer. They have a dia. of 100 nm to 100 microns and are used as free-running material, pref. in concns. of 0.1-10 (wt.)%. The wt. ratio of shell to encapsulate is 2:1 to 1:2. (I) are CBr4 and partly and/or completely brominated alkanes and/or alkenes with up to 17C. Urea, guanidine, melamine and dicyanodiamide cpds. are added. USE/ADVANTAGE - Microcapsules contg. (I) reduce the flammability and increase the fire extinguishing power of the system, which may be any type of lacquer, paint and protective compsn.
