PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a register mark of which the registering by a photo-electric detection is possible for an article to be printed having a reflecting surface of special reflective characteristics. SOLUTION: For this forming method of the register mark in a multi-color printing, the surface of the article to be printed is shielded for the register mark printing region which is outside of an image printing region on the article to be printed, and a printing layer of a color which can be identified from the color of the register mark is formed. Then, the register mark is formed together with the printing of an image on the printing layer. In this case, the printing layer which shields the surface of the article to be printed is a superposed printing layer of a color used in the multi-color printing. The printing of the uppermost layer of the superposed printing layer is simultaneously performed with the image printing for a first stage. Then, in the printing of the uppermost layer, the register-mark corresponding section is missed, then, the register mark of the image printing for the first stage is formed of the color of a base printing.
