Plate has a relatively hard and non-distorting carrier layer (1) and a soft layer (3) to transfer the varnish during printing. They are bonded together, with a covering layer (4) over the free surface of the transfer layer (3) of a light-sensitive material. Pref., the two layers (1,3) are bonded together by lamination on an adhesive layer (2), using a thermal-setting adhesive or a bonding adhesive. The carrier layer (1) is of a polymer material, such as polyester or metal foil, and the varnish transfer layer (3) is a polymer material which can be cut, such as polyurethane. The light sensitive material is of positive or negative diazo dyestuffs. The carrier layer (1) has a thickness of 100-700 microns and the transfer layer (3) has a thickness of 100-1100 microns. ADVANTAGE - The plate structure allows spot varnishing to be applied to paper or cardboard in an offset printing machine in a simple operation.
