The red light-emitting fluorescent material composed of (YxLaySiz)2O3:Eu [x,y,z 0; x+y+z = 1 is produced by dry mixing 100 g yttrium oxide (Y2O3), 8 g lanthanum oxide (La2O3), 4.5 g silicon oxide (SiO2), 5.5 g europium oxide (Eu2O3), 0.5 g boric acid (H3BO3) and 1 g sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) with 1 g sodium fluoride, and (b) firing the mixture in the heat resistant container at 1200-1600 deg.C for 2 hr. The fluorescent material has a good luminance.
