<p>A dual mode drum brake assembly (10) having an improved duo-servo parking and emergency brake lever mechanism includes a pivot lever (46) pivotally supported relative to a brake shoe (20) and operatively coupled to exert an outward force on the brake shoe (20) when the parking brake is actuated. According to one feature of the invention, the pivot lever (46) is pivotally supported relative to the brake shoe (20) generally intermediate a first strut means (94) and a second strut means (110), and the pivot lever (46) and an adjuster lever (96) of the first strut means (94) are pivotally supported on the brake shoe (20). According to another feature of the invention, hold down means (36, 42, 62, 70) extends through an aperture (40) formed in a web (24) of the brake shoe (20), and through an aperture (44) formed in the pivot lever (46) to secure the brake shoe (20) to a backing plate (12) and to pivotally connect the pivot lever (46) to the web (24).</p> |
