The optoelectronic IC, provides a double chip/optical fibre coupling. The IC has a light input/output surface (B) which is anti-reflective and an optical waveguide (W) coupled to this surface (B) at its ends and at one or more intermediate points along its length. Pref. a substrate plate has an etched channel for locating optical fibres at a distance from the ends of the optical waveguide (W) coupled to the light input/output surface. The waveguide pref. has a quantum wave structure. ADVANTAGE - Simple coupling between module and optical fibres, allowing relative adjustment.
