The method formats brightness and color signal data to execute discrete cosine transform so that an image is compressed using one converting IC. The method comprises a first de- multiplexing process for demultiplexing brightness and color data, a first multiplexing process for storing brightness and color data on a frame memory (FM1) and for multiplexing brightness and color signal according to read control signal (S1), a second multiplexing process for multiplexing brightness and color signal selected according to data selection control signals (S2,S3), a second demultiplexing process for demultiplexing brightness and color data according to write control signal (S4) generated at every 4 data blocks, and a third multiplexing process for storing brightness and color signal on formatters (F1,F2) and for multiplexing brightness and color signal.
