Dispersions of finely divided plastics in plasticisers - contg. a reaction prod. of a poly:amine and a poly:isocyanate as thixotropic agent and adhesion promoter

Dispersion of finely divided synthetic resins(I) in plasticisers (II) are made contg. 0.01-30 wt% (w.r.t I+II) of an isocyanate gp-free reaction prod. of a polyamide cpd. (III) and a polyisocyanate (IV). The dispersion may also contain the usual pigments, fillers and adjuvants. The (I) is eg vinyl chloride (co)polymers such as vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers, acrylic (co)polymers, thermoplastic polyurethanes, or mixts of these. (II) is eg tricresyl phosphate, acetyltributylcitrate, diesters of phthalic acid, adipic acid or sebacic acid with 1-18C (un)satd alcohols, etc., liq polyersers eg from adipic acid and butanediol; epoxidised castor oil, etc. The wt. ratio (I):(II) is eg 10-70:30-90, esp 40-60:60-40%. The plastisols have improved processing properties, flow and adhesion, and have pronounced thixotropic properties. They are useful eg as underbody protection for motor vehicles, adhesives, sealants, anti-drumming treatments for metal panels, in the prodn. of opt reinforced films and in the prodn of mouldings by rotary casting or hot- or cold dipping. Coatings based on the prods can be applied eg by airless spray.
