A seat suitable for an aircraft comprises a two-part reclining backrest 172 having an upper portion 394 and a lower portion 373 pivotally coupled to one another, the lower portion 373 has a first set of spaced apart track engaging follower members [371, Figure 6B] and the upper portion 394 has a second track engaging follower member [397, Figure 6B]. The seat further comprises a reclining mechanism that is adapted for allowing and controlling the movement of the backrest between a first upright position and second fully reclined position. The reclining mechanism has a first elongate curved track 360 which receives the first track engaging followers 371 such that as the followers slide along the track the lower backrest portion 373 is caused to 'rock' progressively between the upright and reclined positions, and a second elongate linear track 365 which receives the second track engaging follower 397 member such that as the follower slides along the track the upper backrest portion is caused to 'rock' relative to the lower backrest portion. |
