PURPOSE: An apparatus for generating a preamble sequence in an OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) communication system and a method thereof are provided to generate a short preamble sequence having a minimum peak to average power ratio. CONSTITUTION: According to the apparatus for generating a preamble sequence in an OFDM communication system, a preamble sequence generator(415) generates a preamble sequence having the third number of components when using the same number of partial channels as the second number in the OFDM communication system. And an IFFT(Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) unit(419) inserts null data to sub carriers corresponding to interference removing components between a DC component and the sub carriers among the first number of sub carriers, and inserts the third number of preamble sequence components to each sub carrier except the sub carrier where the null data is inserted, and then performs IFFT as to them.
